Job SummaryAs an intermodal dispatcher, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the movement of freight containers and shipments across various transportation modes to ensure timely delivery and optimal efficiency. You will work closely with drivers, carriers, and logistics personnel to schedule pickups and deliveries, track shipments, and resolve any issues that may arise during transit.
Dispatch Operations- Coordinate and schedule transportation of freight containers and shipments via trucks, trains, and ships.
- Assign drivers and carriers to specific routes and loads, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to delivery schedules.
- Monitor the progress of shipments and provide updates to customers and stakeholders as necessary.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers, customers, and internal teams regarding shipment status, route changes, and delivery.
- Communicate with customers to confirm pickup and delivery times, address any concerns, and provide exceptional customer service.
- Collaborate with warehouse staff and other departments to ensure seamless logistics.
- Identify and resolve transportation issues such as delays, route changes, or equipment problems in a timely manner.
- Implement contingency plans to mitigate disruptions and ensure on-time delivery.
- Address customer complaints and concerns professionally and provide timely resolutions.
- Maintain accurate records of shipment details, including pickup and delivery times, transportation costs, and carrier information.
- Prepare and process shipping documents, bills of lading, and other required paperwork in compliance with regulations.
- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Monitor driver hours of service and equipment maintenance schedules to promote safety and operational efficiency.
- Proven experience as a dispatcher or in a similar logistics role, preferably in the intermodal transportation industry.
- Strong knowledge of transportation operations, routing, and logistics.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with drivers, carriers, and customers.
- Proficiency in using transportation management software (TMS) and other relevant systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance in the transportation industry.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in logistics or transportation management is a plus.
- The role may involve working in a fast-paced environment with occasional evening, weekend, or holiday hours to monitor shipments and address issues as they arise.
- Office-based work with the potential for on-site visits to transportation hubs or terminals.
