Legislative Intern/ Youth Advisory Council (YAC) Coordinator

The County of Riverside's Board of Supervisor's is currently seeking a paid Legislative Intern/ Youth Advisory Council (YAC) Coordinator. The in-person student internship position is based in La Quinta and offers a flexible work week consisting of approximately 18-20 hours per week, with flexibility granted around academic obligations. The selected candidate can anticipate the internship to be two years in length.

The Legislative Intern/ Youth Advisory Council (YAC) Coordinator supports the Board of Supervisors Office and Riverside County Youth Commission by managing a district-based Youth Advisory Council, coordinating civic engagement events, and assisting with legislative, community outreach, and youth development activities.

Examples Of Essential Duties

Under supervision, assists and participates in the work performed by employees of a specific profession;
Through participation, receive supervised work experience in a specific professional vocation, and performs other related duties as required. The intern will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Facilitating YAC meetings and preparing agendas and minutes
  • Coordinating youth participation in Youth in Government Day and Youth Summit
  • Recruiting and onboarding student members
  • Supporting district events
  • Tracking attendance and service hours
  • Communicating with schools and families
  • Serving as a liaison between youth leaders and County leadership
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average: 3.0 GPA required. Proof of most current unofficial/official transcript with cumulative GPA must be provided at time of application as well as a resume, cover letter, and a recommendation letter.

Education:

Applicants must be currently enrolled/attending school as a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior at an accredited college or university in a Bachelor's program, or Master's degree program. Areas of Study:
Accounting, Finance, Arts or Humanities, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Information Technology, Computer Science, Psychology, Sociology, or other Behavioral Sciences, Public Administration, Human Resources, Organizational Studies, or similar.

  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work with youth, families, and professionals
  • Must be WIOA Eligible
  • Must live within one of the 5 Riverside County Districts

Additional Desired Candidate

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with youth or community programs
  • Public speaking
  • Leadership experience
  • Event planning or coordination experience
  • Interest in Government, Civic Engagement, or Public Service careers.
