Extrusion Engineer

The Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Extrusion Engineer to join our engineering team. You will contribute to the growth and success of our company by ensuring the efficient and effective operation of extrusion processes. This role involves developing and implementing extrusion and interventional extrusion processes to achieve high-precision products while complying with internal and external specifications through improvements to existing processes, tooling design, assembly, maintenance, outsourcing, and in sourcing.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement extrusion processes and inline controls.
- Drive process optimization with production personnel and R&D to meet customer specifications and tolerances for high-precision extrusion.
- Diagnose and resolve extrusion process issues to minimize downtime and defects; troubleshoot processing parameters using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Support, coach, and align with Health and Safety policies.
- Collaborate with external vendors to develop tooling and fixtures for high-precision, quality products.
- Maintain comprehensive records and documentation of extrusion processes, improvements, and regulatory compliance; generate documentation for traceability and reproducibility.
- Work with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing during concept, prototyping, and release of new products.
- Follow established procedures to maintain a clean and organized environment.
- Support productivity improvements, reduce scrap and waste, and minimize downtime and setup time.
- Work as part of a team to ensure products and processes comply with the Business Management System (QMS and EMS).
- Support scrap-reduction, cost savings, and quality-improvement initiatives with focus on process and material optimization.
- PFMEA, PCP, and experimental design optimization.
- Provide technical support and training to production staff to ensure adherence to best practices and quality standards.
- Assist in directing maintenance of equipment to keep it operating at optimum conditions.
- Other assignments as required.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on precision extrusion experience, including TPE and TPU extrusion; ability to set up equipment and run production.
- Post-secondary education in an engineering/technical field or relevant technical experience. Preferred:
Mechanical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering. - Experience and understanding of extrusion equipment design.
- Understanding of how process instrumentation affects the process outcomes.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional team and independently with strong time-management skills.
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and timelines, with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills including databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Dexterity and visual acuity for product inspection and computer work.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic statistical knowledge.
