Field Service Technician – Construction Equipment What You Will Do

Field Service Technicians are responsible for preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and service of Caterpillar diesel powered construction equipment. They work largely independently from the company service truck at customer locations and service shops. Technicians report to a Branch Manager and serve customers throughout the region.

• Read and interpret technical instructions, safety manuals, service manuals, and company policies.
• Work with electrical, electronic, and hydraulic system schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals, and use test equipment proficiently.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting and high‑quality repair service on construction equipment, engines, and power trains in a safe, timely manner.
• Maintain safety, customer satisfaction, and business responsibilities while diagnosing and repairing Caterpillar equipment and related engine systems.
• Travel within an assigned region, work overtime, weekends, holidays and may be called for overnight travel up to 25 % of the time.
• Possess a current, valid state driver’s license and DOT medical card for operating service trucks.
• Have a basic set of industrial tools, including hand tools, air tools, torque wrenches, and multimeters.
• Work flexible schedules, nights, weekends, on‑call hours, and be able to work independently in remote locations.
• May work in an environment with potential hazards.
• Perform frequent manual tasks such as typing, operating the phone, handling materials.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Field Service Technician training and/or equipment service and maintenance training through accredited technical schools, dealerships, or manufacturer training is preferred.
• High school diploma required.
• Five (5) or more years of experience with equipment diagnostics and advanced troubleshooting on construction equipment. Candidates with strong engine experience and limited equipment experience may be considered.
