The OSP Line Maintenance and Construction II position performs general labor associated with outside plant line maintenance and construction activities. Responsibilities include operating construction equipment, such as trenchers, backhoes, end loaders, and plows, to place cable facilities. The position installs, tests, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs aerial and underground cable facilities within TDS Telecom service areas. All work is performed safely and in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
Due to in-field support and on-call requirements, the individual selected for this position will be required to reside within a 60-minute driving distance from the La Vergne, TN warehouse located at: 102 Gingham Dr, La Vergne, TNThis position can be hired at either a OSP Line Maintenance and Construction I (#), or OSP Line Maintenance and Construction II (#)level depending on the skills and qualifications of the candidate. Different job postings exist for each of these positions. Please reference each job posting for the minimum qualifications required for each role andsubmitan application for each level that you are both interested and qualified for.
Responsibilities- Performs general line maintenance in various weather conditions while utilizing safety fundamentals.
Completes fallen tree removals from aerial plant, including right of way tree trimming as needed.
Completes DSA structure support repairs (wooden, metal decking).
Replaces broken, sets new, and realigns poles as needed – includes reattaching all cables.
Performs pole transfers per designated work order requests.
Performs all necessary line repairs – strand, lashing wire, guy wires, anchor placing, proper slack placement, etc.
Operates construction and other excavating equipment to construct,maintain, and repair outside plant cable facilities.
Performs the maintenance, repairs, and placement of new (copper, fiber, coax) aerial and buried cable according to maps, staking sheets and locate markings.
Reviews and updates GIS, maps, addresses, as-builds.
Sets peds, vaults, and handholes along with marking/labeling fiber optic, copper/coax facilities.
Installs, troubleshoots, tests, splices, repairs, and maintains fiber optic/copper/coax facilities.
Identifies location of defective cable using various test equipment and repairs buried, aerial, underground and/or customer cable.
Locates cable and fiber in response to customer requests and/or construction needs.
Performs cable fault acceptance tests on newly constructed facilities.
Ensures worksite and landscape is fully restored after project completion.
Proficiently operates all test equipment associated with outside plant facilities
Perform other duties as assigned.
- Trains and monitors personnel as directed by supervisor or team lead.
- Services, cleans, maintains, and repairs equipment.
- Completes all related electronic work order and or / paperwork in a timely manner.
Required Qualifications
- 1+ years of construction experience utilizing construction equipment such as a trencher, plow, and backhoe
-OR- current military service, or prior military service with honorable discharge. - 1+ years of telecommunications outside plant experience.
- Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines in order to meet TDS’s business needs including but not limited to our obligations to our customers and to our customers’ needs.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license andremain eligible for DOT requirements.
Other Qualifications
- Understanding of telecommunication products and services.
- Must have the ability to obtain a Class A CDL. A current CDL is preferred at hire, but TDS will train and certify eligible associates through its in-house CDL certification program after hire.
