Position: General Chemistry Lab Student Teaching Assistant I NFWS (26/27)

Job Description Summary

This is a student teaching assistant position for currently enrolled students at the University of La Verne. Lab TAs will assist the instructor in the proper functioning of the lab during sessions and help students follow proper techniques and safety rules while conducting experiments. TAs must be proactive in the lab and model proper laboratory safety at all times, including wearing lab coats, goggles, and appropriate clothing and shoes.

The position may be extended to the Spring 2027 semester after evaluation by the lab coordinator on performance in the lab.

Responsibilities

Assist the instructor in setting up and maintaining lab equipment, facilitate student learning during lab sessions, enforce safety protocols, and provide guidance to students. Conduct and demonstrate experiments, prepare instructional materials, and record observations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Successful completion of CHEM 201/202 (or the corresponding section) with a grade of B‑ or better.
  • Mandatory attendance at weekly lab meetings.
  • Commitment to working both Fall and Spring semesters for a minimum of 10 hours per week.
  • Current University of La Verne student.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Recommendation from a Chemistry instructor.
  • Driven, initiative taking, and effective communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Excel.
  • Dependable, reliable, and self‑sufficient.
Work Schedule

Position could start as early as the week of August 10, 2026 for required training. The Fall 2026 lab sessions run as follows:

  • Mon 1:00 PM – 5:10 PM
  • Tues 1:00 PM – 5:10 PM
  • Tues 6:00 PM – 10:10 PM
  • Wed 1:10 PM – 5:20 PM
  • Wed 6:00 PM – 10:10 PM
  • Thu 1:10 PM – 5:20 PM
  • Fri 1:10 PM – 5:20 PM

Mandatory weekly lab meeting (time to be decided). This position will work 100% on campus.
