Position Overview

This position serves as the Climbing Coordinator for Outdoor Adventures at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The role will work with professional and student staff to advance the mission and vision of Outdoor Adventures and offer broad-reaching outdoor and leadership programs to the University and greater Lincoln community. The program emphasizes empowering people of all identities to take risks and find value in the unknown.

This position will serve as the Climbing Coordinator for Outdoor Adventures. You will contribute to offering the University and greater Lincoln community broad-reaching outdoor and leadership programs.

As the Climbing Coordinator
, you will coordinate and manage the climbing program as described below.

Responsibilities
  • Maintenance, route setting, and programming of the indoor/outdoor climbing walls.
  • Execution of all facets of climbing education, including academic indoor and outdoor climbing classes.
  • Recruitment, training, supervision, and scheduling of climbing wall staff.
  • Plan and execute multi-day outdoor climbing trips, including training student trip leaders as part of the Adventure Trips program.
Qualifications Minimum

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 year of experience.
  • Experience leading multi-day group outdoor climbing trips and providing climbing education.
  • Experience leading, supervising, and training a team.
  • Able to work in a digital environment across multiple software platforms.
  • Knowledge of route-setting and climbing wall maintenance.
  • Ability to build outdoor climbing anchors.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with in a collegiate outdoor program, supervising climbing wall employees and instructors.
  • Oversight of climbing wall events and community-focused programming.
  • Experience with customer recruitment and retention.
  • Experience working with adaptive rock-climbing systems.
  • Experience leading backcountry trips and leadership development skills (leadership theory, group dynamics, communication, conflict management).
  • Experience managing students in a collegiate outdoor program.
  • Formal instruction and extensive leadership experience in indoor/outdoor climbing, including at least 100 total field days with 35–40 days of professional trip leading.
  • Certifications in indoor/outdoor climbing from PCIA, CWA, or AMGA;
    Wilderness First Responder Certification.

Compensation

Posted Salary: $46,000/yr minimum
