The City of La Vista is seeking a motivated and customer-focused Building Inspector II to join our Community Development team. This position offers a unique opportunity to work both independently and collaboratively while helping ensure safe, high-quality development throughout our growing community.
We are looking for someone who enjoys building relationships, providing exceptional customer service, and working directly with residents, contractors, business owners, property owners, and developers. - Conduct inspections of residential and commercial construction projects
- Review building plans for compliance with applicable codes and ordinances
- Assist residents, contractors, and developers by providing guidance and excellent customer service
- Investigate code‑related concerns and help resolve issues professionally and fairly
Perform rental inspections and issue residential light remodel permits - Maintain accurate records and inspection reports
- Work collaboratively with City staff while managing responsibilities independently
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with the public and construction professionals
- Self‑starter who can work independently and manage priorities effectively
- Team‑oriented mindset with a willingness to support coworkers and department goals
- Knowledge of construction methods, building codes, and inspection practices
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem‑solving skills
- High school diploma or GED required
- Five years of construction experience or a combination of post‑secondary education and related experience
- Valid driver's license required
- ICC Certification in a related discipline or the ability to obtain certification within one year of hire
