This is an opportunity to apply your technical expertise, leadership, and collaborative skills to support critical construction and maintenance projects for fish and wildlife infrastructure and facilities.
As an expert in the field of construction, you will lead several major construction units and oversee the execution of complex projects, including water recreation sites, fish passage improvements, and rural road maintenance.
Additional responsibilities include developing scopes of work and cost estimates, overseeing resources and budgets, and supporting projects from pre-construction through closeout.
What to ExpectAmong the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Construction Project Coordinator Superintendent will,
Supervision and Mentoring- Oversight of multiple construction teams specializing in the following projects:
- Water recreation access site renovations: boat plank installation, parking lot grading, utility demolition.
- Fish transportation: annual transportation of hatchery raised fish to various recreational access sites.
- Fish passage improvements: culvert and bridge installation or removal, and fish channel restorations.
- Water intake maintenance: annual sediment removal from water intake structures.
- Rural road development and maintenance
: annual maintenance activities on wildlife access lands for hunting and fishing opportunities. - Hatchery rearing structures: installation of collection ponds for hatchery fish rearing.
- Supervise and mentor technical and professional level staff to support an effective, motivated team.
- Set goals and objectives, develop strategies to implement, and develop performance measurements and standards for the purpose of ensuring individual and program performance objectives are met.
- Manage personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues in a positive manner for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Coordinate, direct, and review all aspects of construction and maintenance projects to ensure appropriate means and methods are being implemented.
- Work directly with project managers and customers to evaluate and define the scope and constructability of and prioritize construction and maintenance needs.
- Participate in conceptual and 30-60-90 drawing reviews, provide expertise to mitigate issues of functionality or feasibility, identify issues or conflicts that would require adjustments or exemptions to ordinary construction practices.
- Analyze project specifications for sequence of work, material and personnel requirements, and schedule material and equipment deliveries. Identify material or services that require purchasing contracts and develop specifications for the bidding process.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, monitor spending and advocate for additional resources as needed.
- Develop and manage short and long-term project schedules that focus on the identification of upland and in-water work, hatchery rearing activities to ensure crews meet production goals without impacting on agency operations.
- Oversee the management of the construction division’s fleet of approximately 140 vehicles, including trailers and heavy equipment to keep road legal vehicles and equipment in compliance with state and federal laws.
- Work in collaboration with the agency’s Fleet Manager to develop short and long-term replacement plans to cycle aging fleet out of service.
- Monitor the divisions revolving vehicle funds for opportunities for new purchases.
