IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Effective June 11, 1992, pursuant to Public Law 92544 all new employees must complete a satisfactory fingerprint and sexual misconduct background check. All employment is considered temporary until receipt of satisfactory check. Proof that the fingerprinting process has begun must be supplied to Human Resources prior to the first day of employment.

Part I:
Position Summary

The teacher is primarily responsible for effective teaching and learning of the assigned subject(s) following district approved curriculum, instruction and assessment practices. Primary responsibilities include student safety, effective collaboration, and attention to each student’s readiness to learn including needed guidance, discipline, and welfare. Employees may teach in elementary and/or secondary educational settings, individually or as part of a team.

Part II:
Supervision and Controls over the Work

Teachers work with a high degree of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of a designated school administrator. Work is governed, controlled, and evaluated by acceptable professional practice, school and district policies and regulations, WA Administrative Code and Revised Code of Washington, supervisor direction, and performance standards set forth in the collective bargaining agreement.

Part III:
Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan for student success based on assessed needs, using data and information to determine current knowledge, set learning goals, and assess progress. Use district approved assessment tools and strategies, and assist in identifying and complying with teaching, learning, and student accommodation requirements under IEPs and 504 accommodations.
  • Collaborate in a professional learning community with teachers, support staff, and others to address student needs, develop effective teaching and assessment practices, and implement best practices.
  • Plan lessons using professional practice (content, goals, assessment, re‑teaching, etc.) consistent with school/district curriculum and instructional practice, using research‑based strategies to make learning relevant (e.g., contextual learning opportunities).
  • Maintain and provide reasonable and meaningful student grading and evaluation consistent with policy, communicating information to students and parents electronically.
  • Integrate district approved technology into planning, learning, progress reporting, and record‑keeping.
  • Create and maintain classroom management practices that engage students, clearly enforce discipline procedures, and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Participate actively in faculty and grade‑level or department meetings, support building efforts to plan, budget, implement, and evaluate the school’s program, and perform related work as required.
  • Observe student needs and challenges, promptly engaging administrators or staff when students are at risk or in danger (e.g., bullying, sexual harassment/misconduct, depression or suicide ideation, academic failure). Serve as a positive role model.
  • Assist in the supervision of students at school activities and events; remain vigilant throughout the school day, intervening when students act inappropriately.
  • Establish a professional growth plan and review progress annually with the administrator.
  • Follow Board policies and stay abreast of updates and changes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
