Part I:
Position Summary

The teacher is primarily responsible for effective teaching and learning of the assigned subject(s) following district approved curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. Primary responsibilities include student safety, effective collaboration, and ensuring each student's readiness to learn, including guidance, discipline, and welfare. Employees may teach in elementary and/or secondary settings, individually or in teams.

This district serves a diverse community; more than 50% of students come from diverse backgrounds. Candidates must have experience with culturally diverse families and communities and demonstrate commitment to community engagement.

Part II:
Supervision and Controls Over the Work

Teachers work with a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of a designated school administrator. Work is governed by professional practice, school and district policies, and collective bargaining agreement expectations.

Part III:
Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan for student success using assessed needs, data, and setting learning goals.
  • Use district approved assessment tools and practices, including supporting students with special needs and complying with IEP/504 accommodations.
  • Collaborate in professional learning communities with teachers, support staff, and others to improve teaching and assessment practices.
  • Plan lessons consistently with district-approved curriculum and instructional practices, using research-based instructional strategies.
  • Maintain grading and evaluation consistent with policy, communicating results to students and parents via electronic grade systems.
  • Integrate approved technology into planning, learning, reporting, and record-keeping.
  • Develop and enforce classroom management practices that engage students and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Participate in faculty, grade-level, or department meetings; assist in school program planning, budgeting, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Remain vigilant to student safety, addressing bullying, harassment, depression or suicide ideation, or academic risk.
  • Supervise students during school activities and events, monitoring behavior and location compliance.
  • Establish and review a professional growth plan annually with the administrator.
  • Follow Board policies and stay updated on changes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Part IV:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Success experience working with culturally diverse families and communities.
  • Successful completion of a teacher certification program at an accredited institution and valid Washington state certification(s) and/or endorsement(s).
  • Commitment to completing the highly qualified (“HQ”) criteria, including praxis requirements.
  • Demonstrated content knowledge for subjects/levels taught.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with parents, students, and staff.
  • Commitment to collaboration and teamwork within a professional learning community.
  • Skilled in classroom management and maintaining acceptable student behavior.
  • Knowledge and use of multiple assessment, instruction, and evaluation techniques.
  • Understanding of child and adolescent development to inform curriculum and instruction.
  • Skill in meeting diverse student needs and culturally responsive teaching.
  • Ability to utilize technology to support instruction, assessment, and learning.
  • Evidence of continuous professional learning and participation in growth opportunities.
  • Any position‑specific special qualifications indicated in the recruiting process.
