This is a standard position description used for certificated teaching positions with similar duties, responsibilities, classification, and compensation. Teachers assigned to the position description may or may not be assigned all of the duties identified herein.

Part I:Position Summary
The teacher is primarily responsible for effective teaching and learning of assigned subject(s) following district approved curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. Primary responsibility includes student safety and appropriate collaboration and attention to each student’s readiness to learn, including needed guidance, discipline, and welfare. The teacher may teach in a variety of secondary educational, individual, or team teaching settings.

The selected candidate must demonstrate a commitment to strengthening community engagement and communication with the District’s diverse populations.
Part II:Supervision and Controls over the Work
The teacher works with a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of a designated school administrator. The teacher’s work is governed, controlled, and evaluated by acceptable professional practice, school and district policies and regulations, provisions of Washington Administrative Code and Revised Code of Washington, direction of the supervisor, and performance standards and expectations as set forth in the collective bargaining agreement.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
CTE has three primary goals in the North Thurston Public Schools:
- Integrate 21st Century Standards in courses and CTSO’s (Career and Technical Student Organizations) Skills USA.
- Align standards to post-secondary articulations or recognized industry certifications.
- Connect students to careers in various fields.
Teaches a full range of competencies to include but not limited to:
- Familiar with the North Thurston Public Schools’ curriculum and its goals and objectives.
- Must be able to relate specific Career and Technical Education concepts to daily life situations.
- Ability to design activity-centered units that also support academic-essential learnings.
- Incorporate appropriate technology within course.
- Incorporate 21st Century Skills and Student Leadership standards within curricula.
- Obtain necessary industry certifications; NATEF for Automotive; MOUS for Business and Office, etc.
- Understand and follow industry safety standards.
- Maintain first aid certification.
- Participate in program advisory activities.
- The teacher plans for student success based on assessed needs of individual students and the use of data and information to determine each student’s current knowledge and skill level, set learning goals, and assess progress.
- The teacher works collaboratively in a professional learning community with other teachers, support staff, and others to address student needs and develop effective teaching practices.
- The teacher regularly plans lessons using professional practice and consistent with approved curriculum and instructional practice, employing research‑based strategies.
