Employment begins: 2026-27 school year. This position is for certificated special education teachers working with diverse student populations, including high‑intensity social/emotional learning, early intervention, VOICE program, visually impaired, deaf and hard of hearing, and itinerant special education services.
Responsibilities- Plan for student success based on assessed needs, using data to set goals and assess progress.
- Collaborate in a professional learning community with teachers, support staff, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Conduct lesson planning using research‑based instructional strategies consistent with district curriculum.
- Maintain and communicate grading and evaluation information, including electronic grade systems.
- Integrate district‑approved technology into planning, learning, progress reporting, and record‑keeping, including IEP preparation.
- Create, communicate, and maintain classroom management practices that engage students and enforce discipline procedures.
- Participate in faculty, grade‑level, department, and curriculum meetings and support the school’s program planning and evaluation.
- Monitor students for risk factors and promptly involve administrators for safety and welfare concerns.
- Supervise students during school activities and events, maintaining vigilance and intervening when necessary.
- Plan time for professional reflection, establishing a growth plan and reviewing progress annually.
- Follow Board policies and stay updated on changes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to use varied educational/developmental assessment instruments, including Woodcock‑Johnson readings and batteries.
- Capacity to develop a comprehensive understanding of the IFSP process and Part C of IDEA (Early Intervention endorsement).
- Successful experience working with culturally diverse families and communities.
- Completion of a teacher certification program at an accredited institution and valid Washington state certification(s) or endorsement(s).
- Commitment to meet highly qualified (HQ) criteria, including praxis requirements, in a timely manner.
- Ability to assess student special needs and translate them into effective instructional plans, communicating with staff and coaching colleagues.
- Effective verbal and written communication with parents, students, and staff.
- Commitment to collaboration, teamwork, and professional learning communities.
- Skill in classroom management and ability to maintain acceptable student behavior.
- Knowledge of multiple assessment, instruction, and evaluation techniques.
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development for curriculum selection and instructional practice.
- Knowledge of culturally responsive teaching and learning.
- Skill in utilizing technology to aid instruction, assessment, and learning.
- Evidence of continuous professional learning and participation in growth opportunities, with self‑reflection on practice.
- VOICE Program: Conduct vocational interest and aptitude assessments; implement academic, physical, self‑help, leisure/recreation, social/emotional and prevocational programs; coordinate community‑based work and travel programs; coordinate with adult service providers.
- Early Intervention Program: Participate in transition activities between early interventions and pre‑school placements; develop and monitor Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP); provide direct and consultative services to parents on behavioral, adaptive, communication needs.
- Visually Impaired: Teach pre‑Braille readiness, Braille reading/writing, handwriting, and typewriting; use large print books and optical aids; teach orientation and mobility skills, visual efficiency, and study skills; support motor/special development; assess visual functional education and…
