Position SummaryThe teacher is primarily responsible for effective teaching and learning of the assigned subject(s) following district‑approved curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. The teacher will ensure student safety, foster collaboration, and provide guidance, discipline, and welfare support. The teacher may work in a variety of elementary and/or secondary educational settings, including individual or team teaching.
The District serves a diverse community. Over 50% of students come from diverse backgrounds. Successful applicants must have experience working with culturally diverse families and communities and demonstrate a commitment to community engagement.
Supervision and ControlsThe teacher works independently with professional discretion under the general supervision of a designated school administrator. Work is governed by district policies, professional standards, state codes, and the collective bargaining agreement.
Major Duties and Responsibilities- Plan for student success using assessed needs and data, set learning goals, and assess progress. Use district‑approved assessment tools and teacher’s professional practice.
- Assist in identifying and implementing accommodations under IEP and 504 plans for students with special needs.
- Collaborate within a professional learning community to develop effective teaching and assessment practices.
- Plan lessons consistently with curriculum and instructional practice, employing research‑based strategies to make learning relevant.
- Maintain accurate grading and evaluation consistent with school policy and communicate information to students and parents. Post grades to electronic systems.
- Integrate district‑approved technology into instruction, progress reporting, and record‑keeping.
- Establish and maintain classroom management practices that engage students and enforce acceptable behavior.
- Participate in faculty, grade‑level, or department meetings; support school programs, budgeting, and evaluation.
- Monitor student safety; engage administrators or staff when students risk bullying, harassment, depression, or academic failure.
- Supervise students during academic and extracurricular activities.
- Develop a professional growth plan; review annually with the administrator.
- Follow Board policies and stay current with updates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience working with culturally diverse families and communities.
- Successful completion of a teacher certification program at an accredited institution and valid Washington state certification(s) and/or endorsement(s).
- Completion or commitment to meet Highly Qualified (HQ) criteria including praxis requirements.
- Demonstrated content knowledge for the subjects/levels taught.
- Effective verbal and written communication with parents, students, and staff.
- Commitment to collaboration and effective teamwork.
- Classroom management skills that promote acceptable behavior.
- Ability to use various assessment, instruction, and evaluation techniques.
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development to inform curriculum and instruction.
- Knowledge and skills to meet diverse student needs and culturally responsive teaching.
- Technical proficiency to support instruction and assessment.
- Evidence of continuous professional learning and growth.
- Any position‑specific special qualifications as indicated in the recruitment process.
