Position Summary

The teacher serves as a teacher leader and specialist in math, reading, writing, or other specialized content area, working with and coaching teachers and support staff to plan and implement assessment and intervention strategies that improve student learning. The teacher may be assigned a specific classroom assignment in addition to the resource teacher role and serves as a key collaborator in ensuring student safety and readiness.

The District is a diverse community with more than 50% of students from diverse backgrounds. The selected candidate must have experience working with culturally diverse families and a commitment to community engagement.

Supervision and Controls over the Work

The teacher works independently under general supervision of a designated school administrator, governed by professional practice, school and district policies, WA statutes, and collective bargaining agreement.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with and coach classroom teachers in planning learning outcomes based on assessed student needs and data.
  • Lead or assist in implementing IEP and 504 accommodation requirements.
  • Provide or observe classroom instruction as needed.
  • Work collaboratively in a professional learning community to develop effective teaching practices.
  • Assist teachers in using research-based instructional strategies and differentiated instruction.
  • Develop, obtain, maintain and provide student data related to the content area(s); analyze data to support school improvement plans.
  • Integrate district-approved technology into planning, progress reporting, record-keeping, and IEP preparation.
  • Act as an advisor, resource specialist, and facilitator in faculty and professional learning community meetings.
  • Monitor student safety, promptly engage administrators when students are at risk, and serve as a positive role model.
  • Assist in supervising students at school activities and events.
  • Provide training to administrators, teachers, and support staff in assessment and intervention strategies.
  • Develop a professional growth plan and review progress annually with the administrator.
  • Follow board policies and stay abreast of updates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience using diverse educational/developmental assessment instruments such as Woodcock-Johnson Reading or Psycho-Educational Battery.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse families and communities; strong communication skills.
  • Completed a teacher certification program at an accredited college or university; valid Washington state certification(s) and endorsement(s) in relevant content area(s).
  • Completed or committed to timely completion of Highly Qualified criteria including praxis requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge and skill in teaching assigned subject(s)/level(s).
  • Advanced assessment skills, using data to inform intervention strategies.
  • Leadership skills: able to gain confidence and support of the professional learning community.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with parents, students, and staff.
  • Commitment to collaboration and teamwork.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development and ability to apply this in curriculum selection.
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive teaching and learning.
  • Tech proficiency for instruction, assessment, and learning.
  • Evidence of continuous professional growth and self-reflection.
  • Any position-specific special qualifications as indicated in recruitment process.

  • Experience in relevant grade level(s) and content area(s).
Physical and Environmental Requirements

Regularly sit, move about, hear, speak, and observe classroom activities. Must lift and carry items up to 50 lbs, occasionally up to 100 lbs when intervening in safety incidents. Requires good close, distance, color, peripheral, depth vision, and moderate to occasional loud noise tolerance. May work outdoors in varying weather, handle chemicals, and may be exposed to blood or infectious materials.

Travel may be required in school-owned vehicles.
