Position SummaryThe teacher is primarily responsible for effective teaching and learning of the assigned subject(s) following district approved curriculum, instruction and assessment practices. Primary responsibilities include student safety, collaboration, and attention to each student’s readiness to learn, including guidance, discipline, and welfare. The teacher may teach in a variety of elementary and/or secondary educational, individual or team teaching settings.
More than 50% of our students arrive with diverse backgrounds. The candidate must have experience working with culturally diverse families and communities and demonstrate a commitment to strengthening community engagement.
Supervision and Controls over the WorkThe teacher works with a high level of independence and professional discretion under general supervision of a designated school administrator. Work is governed, controlled, and evaluated by professional practice, school and district policies, Washington Administrative Code, and the collective bargaining agreement.
Major Duties and Responsibilities- Plan for student success based on assessed needs, data, and student progress using district‑approved assessment tools and teacher’s professional practice. Assist in inclusion and IEP/504 accommodations.
- Collaborate within a professional learning community with teachers, support staff, and others.
- Plan lessons using professional practice and district curriculum, employing research‑based instructional strategies.
- Maintain grading and evaluation, communicate regularly to students and parents, and post grades to electronic systems.
- Integrate required technology into planning, learning, progress reporting, and record‑keeping.
- Create and maintain classroom management practices to engage students and enforce discipline.
- Participate in faculty, grade‑level, or department meetings and support building efforts to plan, budget, implement, and evaluate school programs.
- Monitor student safety, identify at‑risk students, and engage appropriate staff to address bullying, harassment, mental health, and academic issues.
- Supervise students during school activities and events.
- Establish a professional growth plan and review annually with administrator.
- Follow Board policies and stay current with updates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience working with culturally diverse families and communities.
- Valid Washington state teacher certification and/or endorsements.
- Completion or commitment to complete highly qualified criteria, including praxis.
- Content knowledge for subjects/levels taught.
- Effective communication skills with parents, students, and staff.
- Commitment to collaboration and teamwork.
- Skill in classroom management and supporting acceptable student behavior.
- Knowledge of assessment, instruction, and evaluation techniques.
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development and its application to curriculum.
- Skill in meeting diverse needs of students and culturally responsive teaching.
- Ability to use technology to aid instruction.
- Evidence of continuous professional learning.
- Any position‑specific special qualifications as indicated in recruitment.
- Exemplary punctuality and attendance.
- Experience teaching in a diverse student environment.
- Experience in a team‑teaching environment.
- Experience in the grade level(s) and/or content area(s).
- Bilingual skills.
Requires frequent sitting, moving, speaking, and visual observation. Must lift and carry items up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Requires good vision, moderate noise levels, and possible exposure to wet, humid, or chemical conditions, as well as infectious materials. May require travel in school vehicles.
