REGULAR EDUCATION TEACHER

STANDARD POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position is a standard position description for certificated teaching positions with similar duties, responsibilities, classification and compensation. The teacher is primarily responsible for effective teaching and learning of the assigned subject(s) following district-approved curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. The teacher ensures student safety, effective collaboration, and attention to each student’s readiness to learn.

Part I:
Position Summary

The teacher is primarily responsible for effective teaching and learning of assigned subject(s) following district-approved curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. Primary responsibilities include ensuring student safety, effective collaboration, and attention to each student’s readiness to learn.

Part II:
Supervision and Controls over the Work

The teacher works with a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of a designated school administrator. Work is governed by acceptable professional practice, school and district policies, Washington Administrative Code, Revised Code of Washington, and collective bargaining agreement.

Part III:
Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • The teacher plans for student success based on assessed needs using district-approved assessment tools and data.
  • The teacher works collaboratively in a professional learning community with other teachers and support staff.
  • The teacher regularly conducts planning for lessons using professional practice and research-based instructional strategies.
  • The teacher maintains and provides reasonable and meaningful student grading and evaluation consistent with policy.
  • The teacher integrates district-approved technology into planning, learning, progress reporting, and record-keeping.
  • The teacher creates, communicates, and maintains classroom management practices to effectively engage students.
  • The teacher participates in faculty and grade-level meetings, assists in planning, budgeting, and evaluating the school’s program.
  • The teacher monitors student well-being and refers students at risk to appropriate staff.
  • The teacher assists in the supervision of students at school activities and events.
  • The teacher establishes a professional growth plan and reviews it annually with the administrator.
  • The teacher follows Board policies and stays updated on changes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Part IV:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience working with culturally diverse families and communities, or a demonstrated commitment to engaging diverse populations.
  • Successful completion of a teacher certification program at an accredited college or university, and valid Washington state certification(s) and/or endorsement(s).
  • Successful completion or commitment to timely complete highly qualified criteria including praxis requirements.
  • Demonstrated content knowledge for subjects/levels taught.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with parents, students, and staff.
  • Commitment to collaboration, teamwork, and professional learning community effectiveness.
  • Skill in classroom management to support acceptable student behavior.
  • Knowledge of appropriate assessment, instruction, and evaluation techniques.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development and application to curriculum.
  • Knowledge and skill to meet diverse student needs.
  • Skill in culturally responsive teaching and learning.
  • Skill to utilize technology for instruction and assessment.
  • Evidence of continuous professional learning and commitment to professional growth.
