Environmental Engineer 2 – Lacey, WA

Position Overview
:
This role provides professional environmental engineering services under the guidance of licensed Professional Engineers, supporting planning, design, permitting, and construction of projects, primarily implementing the Agency’s ADA Remediation Plan and ensuring federal accessibility compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide independent professional recommendations on engineering design, permitting, and construction, under the guidance of a licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Prepare engineering reports, studies, contract drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates, and design drawings for diverse capital development projects, including ADA compliance, bio‑engineered channel stabilization, building, retaining walls, marine structures, stormwater systems, hydrologic & hydraulic modeling, sewage systems, potable water systems, and roadway design.
  • Act as Field Engineer / Project Manager: conduct construction site inspections, recommend and propose field engineering revisions, negotiate change orders, prepare contract payments, closeout documentation, and resolve first‑level contract disputes and claims.
  • Travel as needed for field investigations to support design and ADA remediation planning.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in sanitary, civil, geotechnical, water resource, environmental, or closely related engineering field (up to 4 years of work experience may substitute).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of civil/environmental engineering experience.
  • Valid unrestricted driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer‑In‑Training Certificate.

Working Conditions

  • Schedule:

    Monday–Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm; 85% office, 15% travel to work sites; occasional overnight travel possible.
