The Department of Ecology is seeking an experienced Public Disclosure Specialist to join the Information Governance team within the Administrative Services Division. In this high‑impact, collaborative role, you will serve as the primary authority for intake, tracking, and coordination of Public Records Act (PRA) requests. You will apply advanced eDiscovery tools, including AI‑assisted document review, to manage large, complex electronic record sets, streamline workflows, and ensure defensible, repeatable processes that support risk mitigation, transparency, and compliance.
Location- Headquarters Office in Lacey, WA
- Must live within a commutable distance from the duty station
- Eligible for telework and flexible schedule options
- Minimum of one day per week required in the office
- Schedules are subject to change based on position needs
- Electronic intake and coordination of public records requests
- Coordinate targeted search criteria with the eDiscovery team
- Estimate search volume and production timelines
- Lead targeted culling efforts to remove non‑responsive records systematically
- Leverage AI‑assisted tools to assist in document review and volume reduction of AI‑generated records
- Perform focused initial review of large record sets with targeted filters and bulk tags
- Seven years of experience and/or education as follows:
- Experience in analyzing policies, laws, rules, and regulations; formulating recommendations; coordinating implementation; and evaluating programs.
- Demonstrated competence in the following skill sets:
- Public Records Knowledge & Compliance – Ability to understand and apply public records laws and policies.
- Records Search, Collection & Production – Ability to plan and conduct records searches and prepare responses.
- Clear Communication & Collaboration – Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with staff, managers, and external partners.
- Problem Solving & Sound Judgment – Ability to analyze issues, identify solutions, and make well‑reasoned decisions.
- Use of eDiscovery and Records Tools – Proficiency with digital tools for searching, reviewing, redacting, and producing records.
- Consulting & Advising Others – Ability to provide clear guidance to staff and leadership on public records processes.
- Data Analysis & Reporting – Ability to gather, analyze, and report performance metrics.
- Reviewing and Protecting Sensitive Information – Ability to evaluate records for confidentiality, exemptions, and privilege.
- Education:
Major study in business administration, public administration, health administration, law, environmental law, public policy, or related field.
- Examples of how to qualify:
- 7 years of experience
- 6 years of experience plus 30–59 semester or 45–89 quarter credits
- 5 years of experience plus 60–89 semester or 90–134 quarter credits (Associate’s degree)
- 4 years of experience plus 90–119 semester or 135–179 quarter credits
- 3 years of experience plus a Bachelor’s degree
- 1 year of experience plus a Master’s degree
- AI‑Enabled eDiscovery Automation – Use advanced AI tools to streamline record review, classification, and production.
- Process Mapping & Lean Techniques – Visual map workflows and apply lean methods to improve processes.
- Project Coordination – Coordinate multi‑step or cross‑team projects and monitor progress.
- Interagency Coordination – Collaborate with external agencies or partner organizations on best practices.
- Data Quality Assurance – Perform detailed accuracy checks on data inputs and outputs.
