The Department of Ecology seeks a Product Stewardship Specialist (Environmental Specialist
5) to lead and coordinate implementation of the Recycling Reform Act within the Solid Waste Management program. The role involves high-level policy development, rule management, and technical assistance to state and local agencies, manufacturers, and other stakeholders. This position is based in Lacey, WA and offers flexible/hybrid work with required fieldwork.
- Ten years of experience in environmental or product stewardship with demonstrated competence in regulatory interpretation, research analysis, and collaboration
- Ability to apply technical understanding of stewardship programs, recycling systems, and waste management
- Ability to lead meetings, manage differing viewpoints, and guide discussions toward productive solutions
- Education in environmental, physical, or natural sciences, environmental planning, or allied field (or equivalent experience)
- Knowledge of solid waste and hazardous waste laws and regulations
- Experience with product stewardship, product take-back, or extended producer responsibility policies and programs
