Bereavement Counselor

Day Shift Monday - Friday Full-Time

Position Summary:

Provide grief counseling and support to bereaved individuals and families, facilitate support groups, and assist in assigned programs.

Responsibilities:

Deliver individual and family grief support and  bereavement support groups as needed.

Oversee bereavement program components and training.

Participate in community education on grief and bereavement.

Foster positive relationships within the team, agency, and organization.

Engage in education activities to improve knowledge and professional growth.

Ensure personal and environmental safety during duties.

Uphold a professional, supportive work environment.

Comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Maintain confidentiality of client and company information per HIPAA regulations.

Follow infection control policies, safety protocols, and disaster preparedness procedures.

Education and Experience:

Required:

Master's in counseling, psychology, social work, or pastoral studies, or equivalent experience; 3 years post-master’s experience (including internships); 1 year grief counseling for children and families; 2 years in healthcare services; proficiency in interpersonal communication and group facilitation.

Preferred:
Crisis intervention training;
Clinical Pastoral Education; hospice experience; grief support group facilitation; counseling for psychological, social, and spiritual needs.

Skills:

Mathematical:
Basic arithmetic abilities.

Language:
Proficient verbal and written communication in English; ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret business and professional materials.

Computer:
Familiarity with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and office equipment.

Other:
Organizational skills, teamwork, adaptability, prioritization ability, and experience with dying persons and families.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The demands of this role necessitate a team member to effectively perform essential functions. Adaptations can be made to accommodate team members with disabilities. Regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity are fundamental, along with the ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity requirements include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

In a healthcare setting, exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, and conditions typical to the field is expected. Routine use of standard medical equipment and tools associated with clinical care is essential.
