Position: Shoreline Management Act GIS Specialist (IT Data Management Journey)

Description

Keeping Washington Clean and Evergreen

The Department of Ecology is hiring a Shoreline Management Act GIS Specialist (IT Data Management Journey) within the Shorelands & Environmental Assistance (SEA) program.

Location:

  • Headquarters Office in Lacey, WA.
  • Must live within commuting distance of the duty station.

Schedule:

  • Eligible for telework and flexible schedule options.
  • Telework may be combined with in‑person meetings as required.
  • Schedules are subject to position needs.

Project position funded through June 30, 2027, with potential extension based on legislative appropriation.

Duties

Lead the SEA Program’s geospatial data management, spatial database administration, and GIS application development.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design, administer, and maintain enterprise spatial databases.
  • Develop, maintain, and publish Coastal Atlas web applications, map services, and geoprocessing tools.
  • Conduct advanced spatial analyses and develop automated modeling workflows using Python, R, and ArcGIS tools.
  • Lead ETL workflow design to integrate data from local governments, Tribes, federal agencies, and scientific models.
  • Provide technical assistance, guidance, and training on spatial datasets and GIS tools.
  • Coordinate with GIS/IT teams and external partners to align data standards and resolve technical issues.
  • Maintain documentation, metadata, and records to meet agency and state standards.
  • Communicate data design decisions and system updates to staff and partners.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Five years of experience or related education, including:
  • Geospatial Data Management.
  • Spatial Database Design.
  • Enterprise GIS Administration.
  • Advanced Spatial Analysis.
  • ETL Process Development.
  • GIS Application Development.
  • Relevant education in Computer Science, GIS Applied Science, STEM, or related field.

Desired: Experience with Web GIS (ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise) and ArcGIS Pro.
