About the RoleAre you an experienced electrician looking for a new challenge that will contribute to fish and wildlife across Washington state? This position offers the opportunity to inspect electric systems and equipment to identify failures or loss of efficiency, detect and correct faulty parts, and perform journey‑level work installing, maintaining, and repairing low voltage electrical equipment and systems of 600 volts or less.
ResponsibilitiesElectrical Work
- Independently perform skilled installation, maintenance, and repair work on low voltage electrical equipment and systems of 600 volts or less.
- Install, modify, maintain, and repair interior wiring and cables, connections for electric machines, switches and controls, fuse boxes, breaker panels, distribution and instrument panels, buzzer and bell circuits, and hearing and power circuits.
- Install, adjust, maintain, modify, and repair electric motors, equipment, and instruments such as pumps (up to 300 hp), fans, metering devices, power tools, motors, and generators.
- Inspect electric systems and equipment to detect and correct faulty or worn parts.
- Perform electrical testing including voltage, amperage, and meg‑ohm for assessing electrical efficiency and motor degradation.
- Schedule and coordinate dates for arrival or supplies and equipment.
- Schedule, direct, coordinate, and lead trades in new construction or facility maintenance projects.
- Prepare cost tracking reports, develop a schedule of maintenance activities based on work orders, and determine materials, equipment and manpower needs for each assignment.
- Develop cost estimates for labor and materials needed for building maintenance, alteration, or remodeling projects.
Work is performed at construction sites, hatchery and wildlife areas, and in a fabrication shop. Hazards include rough terrain, riverbanks, slippery slopes, confined spaces, driving in all weather conditions, and lifting 50 pounds repeatedly. Some tasks involve computer work and may require working in or near water.
ScheduleMonday – Thursday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM. The standard schedule may include occasional evening or weekend work as needed. Schedules may vary based on business needs or weather conditions.
Travel Requirements60–80% travel to and from work sites, including overnight travel, depending on season.
Customer InteractionsFrequent interactions with federal, local, inter‑agency, and intra‑agency customers and vendors.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- Current and valid Washington State Journey‑Level Electrician certificate (EL01).
- Three (3) years of electrical trade experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical systems, generators, industrial motors, and control circuits.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Experience with water distribution and pumping systems, including motor controls, VFDs, and soft‑starts.
- Class A CDL.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience with programmable logic controllers.
