Position: Boyd Thermal by Eaton - Manufacturing Engineer

Job Purpose

The manufacturing engineer at Boyd Laconia provides technical expertise to support development, implementation, and fabrication of custom thermal management solutions. As a hybrid role between a product and process engineer, the engineer assists both product development and manufacturing processes.

Key Accountabilities / Job Functions
  • Cost Estimating:
    Review product requirements to assess manufacturability, prepare cost-to-manufacture estimates for the sales team on new products, and maintain system costing for existing products.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI):
    Implement complete manufacturing data packages for factory execution, create ERP part numbers, BOMs, routes, ECOs, CAD models, drawings, and work instructions, and review specification requirements for compliance.
  • Product/Program Management:
    Oversee and support released jobs on the shop floor, including analysis for customers, process oversight, and fixture development.
  • Process Maintenance:
    Handle technical process development and own overall process compliance for key factory departments (dip brazing, heat treating, soldering, welding).
  • Quality MRB:
    Disposition of non‑compliant product in responsible processes, creating rework orders or scrap parts as required.
Job Scope
  • Job Complexity: Works on assignments that are complex and require high‑level decision making. Exercises judgment in critical business situations.
  • Supervisory Responsibility: None; may provide training to shop personnel.
  • Contacts / Interaction: Engages with Sales, Customers, Purchasing, Vendors/Suppliers, Production Control, Quality Assurance, all manufacturing departments, and other Boyd facilities.
  • Decision Making: High‑level decision responsibility; decisions directly impact operations.
Job Qualifications
  • Educational Background: Bachelor of Science in engineering with 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Special

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
    • General knowledge of ERP systems;
      Oracle preferred.
    • Knowledge of BOM structures and process routings.
    • Proficient in CAD software;
      Solid Works preferred.
    • Knowledge of DFM practices for various product types.
    • Experience in tolerancing and GD&T.
    • Knowledge of machine shop practices across multiple areas.
    • Knowledge of statistical analysis tools.
    • Excellent communication and project management skills, including Gantt charts.
    • Problem‑solving with root cause and corrective & preventive action.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
    • Working knowledge of NPI, 8D, Lean, DFM, PFMEA, Control Plans, and PPAP.
    • General knowledge of ISO
      9000 or AS9100 standards and audits.
    • Experience with Defense and Aerospace products and requirements.
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    None required;
    Solid Works certified preferred. Lean Green Belt or higher is a plus.
  • Cultural Requirements: Team player, accepts personal accountability for self and limited for others, initiates and offers suggestions to improve service to customers, and communicates across intra‑ and inter‑company channels.
  • Travel: Less than 10%; occasional support for customer or vendor audits.
