TITLE of Intervention: STEAM Lab Teacher (Hourly)

Pay: $20 per hour (Title I)

Curriculum: K5 Science Standards / Computational Thinking / STEAM

Days and Time: Monday
-Thursday 9:00 2:00 pm

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Kim Boutin Principal

JOB SUMMARY:

The STEAM Lab Teacher will provide engaging, standards-based STEAM learning experiences for students in Kindergarten through fifth grade. The teacher will design and deliver hands-on lessons aligned to the South Carolina K5 Science Standards while intentionally integrating computational thinking skills, including problem solving, pattern recognition, decomposition, sequencing, algorithms, data analysis, and logical reasoning.

The STEAM Lab Teacher will utilize STEM and STEAM materials and resources provided through the Google grant to create meaningful opportunities for students to explore, design, investigate, collaborate, and apply their learning. Lessons will connect science concepts to technology, engineering, mathematics, and computational thinking to support students in developing the skills necessary to become creative problem solvers and innovative thinkers.

The STEAM Lab Teacher will collaborate with classroom teachers to support grade-level science instruction and ensure that STEAM Lab experiences reinforce classroom learning and school-wide instructional goals.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Meets and instructs assigned K5 classes in the STEAM Lab at the location and times designated.
  • Plans and delivers standards-based STEAM lessons aligned with the South Carolina K5 Science Standards and grade-level curriculum expectations.
  • Integrates computational thinking skills into science and STEAM instruction, including decomposition, pattern recognition, sequencing, algorithms, logical reasoning, data analysis, and problem solving.
  • Designs and facilitates hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences that encourage students to ask questions, investigate, design solutions, test ideas, analyze results, and revise their thinking.
  • Integrates science with appropriate elements of technology, engineering, mathematics, and the arts to provide authentic STEAM learning experiences.
  • Creates a safe, engaging, and inclusive STEAM Lab environment that encourages student curiosity, creativity, collaboration, communication, and productive problem solving.
  • Utilizes STEM and STEAM materials, equipment, technology, and resources provided through the Google grant in accordance with established procedures and instructional goals.
  • Provides students with opportunities to use engineering design processes and computational thinking strategies to solve authentic problems and demonstrate understanding of science concepts.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers to identify grade-level science standards and develop STEAM Lab lessons and experiences that reinforce and extend classroom instruction.
  • Employs a variety of instructional strategies, technologies, and hands-on learning approaches to meet the needs, interests, abilities, and developmental levels of K5 students.
  • Establishes clear learning objectives and success criteria for STEAM lessons, projects, investigations, and challenges and communicates these objectives to students.
  • Assesses student understanding through observations, questioning, student products, performance tasks, projects, and other appropriate formative assessment strategies.
  • Maintains accurate records of student participation, progress, projects, and other documentation as required by the school, district, or grant program.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, technology, and STEAM Lab facilities.
  • Maintains and organizes STEAM Lab materials, equipment, technology, and supplies to ensure resources are readily available and properly cared for.
  • Monitors the use of grant-funded materials and resources and maintains documentation as required to support appropriate implementation of the grant.
  • Provides opportunities for students to communicate their thinking, collaborate with peers, reflect on learning, and demonstrate understanding through multiple formats.
