Job SummaryActing as a member of the interdisciplinary group, and under the supervision of a registered nurse, the hospice aide's primary function is to provide personal care to clients and assist with activities of daily living, simple meal preparation, non-sterile wound care, and rehabilitation exercises in an effort to meet the patient's personal needs and promote comfort. The Hospice Aide provides care as directed by the professional staff members, is responsible for observing the patient, reporting these observations and documenting observations and care performed.
The Hospice Aide will be assigned in a manner that promotes quality, continuity and safety of a patient's care.
- Education: High School diploma or GED. Successful completion of a Nursing Assistant Course with certification.
- Experience: Work experience in a health care related setting dealing with patients for at least one (1) year is required, with experience in a hospice setting preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: Current certification as a Nursing Assistant required. Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.

Skills:
Demonstrated knowledge in proper body mechanics, infection control measures, vital sign assessment, and use of durable medical equipment to include hospital beds, wheelchairs, walkers, etc. Competency and skills assessment demonstration is required. - Other: For positions in Home Health only - Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record. Must have a means of transportation.
- Contacts: Patient/family contacts in the home and various community settings. Contact with other health care professionals, community agencies, and agency personnel.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping and driving. Frequent lifting/moving patients. Intermittent lifting, moving or carrying up to 50 lbs. Frequent pushing or pulling over 50 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity and eye/hand coordination. Constant reaching with hands/arms. Frequent talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Specific visual requirements: inspection of patient, assessment of patient, visualization of gauges and documentation.
Exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, unclean environments, toxic substances, pharmaceutical preparations, hazardous and unsafe driving conditions, and other conditions common to delivery of health care. Intermittent exposure to risk of exposure to blood‑borne pathogens. Moderate noise level in work area. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours. May be required to take call and work weekends/holidays as needed based on the needs of the department.
