Structural Steel Layout Fabricator Step into a day where precision shapes reality. You arrive to a clean workstation, open a set of digital drawings, and start laying out heavy steel. Your tape, squares, and precision gauges guide every mark. By mid-morning, you’ve aligned large components, verified dimensions against tight tolerances, and secured parts with SMAW tack welds so welders can complete final weld-out.

After lunch, you fine-tune fit-up, deburr, and straighten a stubborn assembly, document in-process checks, and collaborate with welders to keep the build on schedule. Safety protocols anchor every move.

What you’ll handle

Translate engineering drawings and fabrication prints (digital and hard copy) into accurate layouts and assemblies.

Identify parts from electronic drawings and match materials to specifications.

Measure, scribe, and prep using tape measures, layout tools, and precision instruments.

Perform grinding, drilling, reaming, countersinking, deburring, straightening, and other fit-up operations.

Tack weld (stick) to hold components in position prior to final weld.

Confirm alignment, dimensions, and tolerances before weld-out; rework when required to meet quality standards.

Conduct in-process quality inspections to ensure compliance with engineering specifications.

Operate fabrication equipment safely while following company safety and quality procedures.

Team with welders and other trades to deliver complete structural assemblies.

What you bring

High school diploma or equivalent.
1–3 years of structural fitting experience within shipyard, marine, heavy fabrication, or industrial manufacturing settings.

Fluency in reading and interpreting fabrication blueprints and digital drawings.

Experience navigating electronic drawing systems and identifying structural components from prints.

Solid understanding of structural layout, fit-up, and dimensional tolerances.

Construction math competency; strong use of tape measures and precision measuring tools.

Hands-on skill with grinders, drills, and layout equipment.

Ability to perform stick (SMAW) tack welding to secure components prior to final weld-out.

Strong mechanical aptitude, meticulous attention to detail, and a strong safety mindset.

Preferred: shipyard, vessel construction, or marine fabrication experience.

Schedule Training starts on the day shift. Flexibility is required to work either schedule as needed:

Day

Shift: 6:00 AM – 4:30 PMEvening

Shift: 3:00 PM – 2:30 AM Overtime is regularly available and expected as production requires.
