Nesting Shapes Puzzle Clasps with Suzanne Williams:
August 1 and 2
A Nesting Shapes Puzzle Clasp is a 2-part interlocking clasp characterized by 2 frame pieces that have components added to them, so they fit snugly together, one inside the other, and when taken apart, are each on one end of a chain that connects them. They securely interlock when fitted together so they can’t be easily taken apart. As part of the process of creating this clasp participants will learn how to:
In this workshop students will learn about:
- Understand the way the components fit together and work through the process of
creating a design for this unique kind of clasp. - Shape and form two nesting frame portions.
- Create layers for the bottoms, insides, and tops of the frames by piercing/sawing and texturing or developing imagery on silver or brass sheet to create dimensional
shadowbox effects. - Select components like stone settings or other design elements that can be
incorporated into or added to the inner frame to create tension that locks the two
frames together. - Add structures/components to the tops of frames that act as barriers so the frames
interlock and come apart only one way.
- August 1 and 2 from 9:30-5:30 each day. You must be able to attend both days as no makeups will be given.
- 16 contact hours (8 hours each day), held at Silver Peak Jewelry Arts, 100
