Senior Laser Welding Engineer
In this exciting role as a Senior Laser Welding Engineer in the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team for ***'s Colorado Manufacturing Campus, your materials joining skills will shape both the design and manufacturing process for new products. This role will provide technical leadership to R&D and manufacturing teams as a recognized expert in laser welding. The ideal candidate for this role will have experience developing processes that bond metals to meet product use requirements for physical strength.
This role reports to an Engineering Manager at the
*** facility in Lafayette, CO and may support processes at any of ***'s manufacturing sites in CO. Please note this role does work on-site in the manufacturing area but is not direct day-to-day support.
Leads the innovation, development, and optimization of new laser welding manufacturing concepts, equipment, processes, and procedures for transfer to manufacturing operations. Executes assignments with limited oversight from manager.
Work with R&D teams on component material selection, geometry, and failure analysis to ensure robust welding processes.
Design and implement prototype processes on lab welding equipment to support development builds during the early product design stages.
Create detailed specifications for new production welding equipment.
Work with weld equipment vendors to ensure machines are built to process/safety requirements and complete factory acceptance testing.
Support installation of new laser welding equipment in the production facility.
Develop robust process settings for new welders using DOE and other statistical techniques.
Complete process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) for laser welding equipment.
Test method validation for weld evaluation/inspection processes.
Lead risk analysis activities to assess weld processes and ensure appropriate mitigations are implemented.
Required Knowledge and ExperienceRequires a Baccalaureate degree in a technical field and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
Laser safety expertise
Nice to HaveExperience with other materials joining processes, such as resistance welding or ultrasonic welding
Laser marking experience
Experience developing vision inspection/verification systems
Six Sigma Lean Manufacturing experience or certification
Design for Reliability and Manufacturing experience or certification
