Position Summary

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides executive leadership and oversight of the financial and accounting operations of assigned Colorado YMCAs. The CFO works closely with the YMCA leadership to ensure the financial health, integrity, and operational effectiveness of the YMCAs by providing exceptional and accurate financial and accounting management, stewardship, and accountability. As a key member of the executive team, the CFO, with the support of a right-sized, cost-effective shared services team, is responsible for budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, treasury management, investments, audits, compliance and financial and accounting systems for each Colorado YMCA.

The CFO ensures that the shared services staffing structure and cost-allocation methodology remain transparent, budget-proportional, and scaled to each Association's size and need.

OUR CULTURE:

Our mission and core values are brought to life by our culture. In the Y, we strive to live our cause of strengthening communities with purpose and intentionality every day. We are welcoming: we are open to all. We are a place where you can belong and become. We are genuine: we value you and embrace your individuality. We are hopeful: we believe in you and your potential to become a catalyst in the world.

We are nurturing: we support you in your journey to develop your full potential. We are determined: above all else, we are on a relentless quest to make our community stronger beginning with you.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial records, transactions, and reporting systems.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for finance, accounting, information systems, and other assigned functions.
  • Design, implement, and regularly reassess a shared services staffing model - including centralized and local/embedded roles - that scales to each Association's budget, transaction volume, and operational need, rather than applying a uniform staffing structure across all Associations.
  • Develop and maintain a transparent, budget-proportional cost allocation methodology for shared financial services; monitor and report annually on cost impact to each participating Association relative to prior arrangements.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, financial forecasting and performance monitoring.
  • Provide financial analysis, reporting, and recommendations to executive leadership and the Boards to support informed decision-making.
  • Partner with operational leaders to align resources, capital investments, and growth initiatives with organizational priorities.
  • Evaluate trends, organizational performance, and business models to support long-term sustainability and strategic objectives.

  • Build strong and appropriate relationships with Board members, volunteers, and key stakeholders to advance organizational impact.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, financial policies, compliance practices, and accountability systems throughout the organization.
  • Oversee internal and external audits, regulatory filings, Form 990 preparation, YMCA of the USA compliance, and compliance with all other applicable standards and requirements.
