Job Summary
Makes members/patients and their needs a primary focus of one’s actions; develops and sustains productive member/patient relationships. Considers how actions or plans will affect members; responds quickly to meet member/patient needs and resolves problems. Performs duties as under Nurse Practice Act (Portions adopted from the Colorado State Nurse Practice Act CRS).
EssentialResponsibilities
- Knows and complies with all Kaiser Permanente quality, safety, and emergency policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice in every interaction with patients, colleagues, providers, and leadership.
- Ensures patient safety in medication preparation and administration through consistent use of the 5 rights, 3 checks, two patient identifiers, procedural time‑outs, infection prevention, and fall prevention.
- Reports safety hazards, accidents, incidents, and unsafe working conditions promptly.
- Applies principles of asepsis and infection control, maintains a safe patient care environment, and identifies malfunctioning equipment.
- Supports physicians and other medical providers by rooming patients, communicating delays, facilitating schedules, and anticipating their needs.
- Practices within scope of practice, performing routine and specialized nursing procedures per physicians’ orders and the approved nursing care plan, including therapeutic equipment, medication administration, and specialized nursing care to acutely ill patients.
- Monitors patients’ condition by observing, collecting, reporting, and recording objective and subjective data; identifies changes; initiates appropriate emergency procedures; and reports adverse patient conditions to physician, Nursing Manager, or registered nurse.
- Teaches and promotes general preventive health measures to patients and families, including medication use, injections, blood pressure monitoring, post‑operative care, and diabetic care; disseminates standard after‑care instructions and patient instruction material.
- Assists physicians with examinations, treatments, and minor surgery, preparing patients and rooms for procedures, attending patients during procedures, and recording pertinent information in the patient chart.
- Assists in orienting and training new employees, performs duties of Nursing Assistant or Medical Receptionist as required, assigns or coordinates activities for nursing and medical assistants and medical receptionists, and orders, stores, and maintains supplies and instruments.
- Consistently demonstrates service behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission, and departmental initiatives, and provides culturally sensitive service to patients, members, and vendors.
- Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program.
- Licensed as a Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Colorado.
- Completion of a minimum of 400 clinical hours of faculty‑planned experience with direct supervision.
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
- Demonstrated customer service focus and exemplary service skills.
- IV therapy certification may be required for some positions.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) preferred.
- Minimum six (6) months of experience with adults, pediatrics, and/or trauma preferred.
- IV therapy certification preferred.
