SUMMARY OR GENERAL

PURPOSE:

Under supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, the Golf Course Mechanic is responsible for the expert maintenance and repair of all golf course equipment, large and small. Performs a full range of preventive and repair services to include fabrication, welding, reel mower set-up and grinding, diesel engine, gasoline and two-stroke equipment, electrical repairs and other mechanical work as assigned. Performs tune-ups, electrical repairs, major overhauls as well as routine service repair duties to trucks, cars, tractors, golf course specific equipment, etc.

Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:

  • Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain and repair mechanical defects in automobiles, heavy equipment, specialized mowing equipment, golf carts, utility trucks, aerators, sweepers, small equipment, and other mechanical equipment used in golf course maintenance work.
  • Disassemble engines or motors, and perform general overhauling; install and adjust brakes, batteries, tires, wiring, and glass; repair transmissions, differentials, carburetors, distributors, fuel pumps, steering systems, starters, generators, universal joints, hydraulic systems, high pressure pumps, valves, etc.
  • Occasional emergency repairs in or out of the shop; welding and acetylene operations; fabrication and modification of equipment.
  • Regular and emergency reel sharpening, overhaul, back lapping, bed knife facing, grinding, daily HOC check and adjustment.
  • Perform all functions involved in preventive maintenance program.
  • Regularly inspect equipment condition, estimate cost of parts, repairs and preventative maintenance, spot check equipment for performance in the field.
  • Responsible for the ordering of repair parts and replacement supplies; perform parts inventory; maintain a complete set of records, files and work orders for all equipment; manage account funds. Explores alternative purchasing options for parts and supplies to efficiently manage expenses.
  • May operate more complex equipment in conjunction with training.
  • Train employees in proper operation, safety and service of equipment.
  • Regulate use of equipment, if needed.
  • Responsible for shop area maintenance, safety and cleanliness.
