Position: AGRICULTURE ANIMAL INDUSTRY - MEAT INSPECTOR 3 (Relief Inspector) District 1

Position overview:

The meat inspection section of the gda governs and regulates the statutes on meat slaughter and processing plants to assure consumers a safe, wholesome, and properly labeled meat supply.

1. Meat inspection regulates red meat slaughter & processing and performs daily inspections of state facilities, federal facilities, and custom-exempt facilities.

2. The meat inspection program provides compliance oversight of meat products in commerce and the slaughter and processing of farm-raised commercial non-amenable species.

Description of duties:

This position is assigned to the following county.

The selected candidate must be willing to relocate or currently live in one of the below counties:

* paulding

* bartow

* carroll

* chattooga

* cherokee

* cobb

* coweta

* dade

* douglas

* floyd

* gilmer

* gordon

* haralson

* heard

* meriwether

* murray

* pickens

* polk

* troup

* walker

* whitfield

The duties of this position include:

* provides antemortem and post-mortem inspections at livestock slaughter establishments.

* provides re-inspection of livestock and poultry products; performs inspections of facilities to assure regulatory compliance.

* discuss findings and establish coverage assignments with the district.

* supervises and may act as district supervisor in emergencies.

* the duties of this position are performed at various establishments as necessary to provide district-wide relief coverage when inspection personnel are on leave of absence; they may also provide state-wide relief coverage if needed.

* the schedule of this position may change without warning based on the immediate needs of the program.

* responsibilities may entail overnight travel and travel outside of the district or state to complete the necessary training.

Other duties as assigned.

1. The selected candidate must complete usda inspection methods training after being hired at the first opportunity.

4. Failure to submit a transcript may result in not being eligible for this specific position if qualifying based on education.

Preferred qualifications:

preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:

* state or federal meat inspection or food inspection experience.

* completion of a bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university in animal science, environmental science, biology, or a closely related field; and

* working knowledge of microsoft office suite.

Condition of employment:

* the selected candidate must have completed the usda inspection methods training.
