The Lafayette School Corporation (LSC) is seeking a professional, organized, and customer-focused Receptionist to serve as the first point of contact for students, families, staff, and visitors at Jefferson High School. This position plays a critical role in creating a welcoming school environment while ensuring the efficient operation of the main office.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, a commitment to customer service, strong organizational abilities, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced educational setting.

Position Summary

The Receptionist serves as the face of Jefferson High School and is often the first person students, families, staff members, and visitors encounter when interacting with the school. This position is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, maintaining a welcoming and professional office environment, and ensuring effective communication between the school and its stakeholders.

The successful candidate must demonstrate outstanding verbal and written communication skills, professionalism, discretion, and the ability to provide courteous and efficient assistance while managing multiple priorities. The Receptionist plays an essential role in supporting school operations and helping create a positive experience for everyone who enters or contacts the building.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Greet and assist students, families, staff, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Answer, screen, and direct incoming telephone calls; respond to inquiries or connect callers with the appropriate staff member.
  • Follow visitor check-in and building access procedures, including operation of the security buzzer system, visitor sign-in records, and visitor badges.
  • Maintain an orderly and professional front office environment.
  • Communicate accurate information to students, families, staff, and community members.
  • Assist with mailings, interoffice mail, and building-wide communication projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or administrative team.
Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong customer service, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to stay organized, attend to details, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Preferred

  • Previous school or office experience.
  • Experience with Power School or a similar student information system.
Work Calendar and Benefits

This is a 10-month Office Professional position
. The work calendar includes 15 workdays before the start of school, 181 teacher contract days, five workdays after the end of the school year, and six paid holidays.
