This is a 1.0 FTE position as a Social Studies teacher for the school year at Jefferson High School. Applicants must be licensed from the State of Indiana in Historical Perspectives covering grades 9-12. Consideration will be given to applicants who are enrolled in a state-approved Transition to Teaching program or who are eligible for an Emergency Permit in Historical Perspectives assuming the prerequisite skills are possessed.
Those already on a certified contract with the Lafayette School Corporation should complete an INTERNAL application by Friday, June 19, 2026. Candidates that are not currently on a certified contract with the Lafayette School Corporation should complete an external application through Applitrack.

Position Summary
Jefferson High School is seeking a knowledgeable, student-centered, and engaging Social Studies Teacher to inspire students to become informed, thoughtful, and active citizens. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality instruction aligned with Indiana Academic Standards while helping students develop critical thinking, historical analysis, civic literacy, and an understanding of diverse cultures and perspectives.
The Social Studies Teacher will create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages inquiry, discussion, problem-solving, and the examination of historical and contemporary issues. Through the study of history, government, economics, geography, and related social sciences, the teacher will help students make meaningful connections between the past and present while preparing them for responsible participation in a democratic society.
Working collaboratively with colleagues, families, and support staff, the Social Studies Teacher will support the academic, social, and emotional growth of students and contribute to the overall success of Jefferson High School. The ideal candidate demonstrates a commitment to educational excellence, strong instructional practices, effective classroom management, and a belief that all students can learn and achieve at high levels.
Qualifications
Required
- Valid Indiana teaching license in Historical Perspectives Education
- Applicants enrolled in a state-approved Transition to Teaching program in Historical Perspectives
- Candidates eligible for an Indiana Emergency Permit in Historical Perspectivbes if prerequisite competencies are demonstrated.
