Position: Student Attendance and Intervention Specialist
Location: 2410 S. 9th Street, Lafayette, IN 47909
Student Attendance and Intervention SpecialistPosition Summary:
The Attendance Officer is responsible for monitoring and maintaining accurate student attendance records, ensuring compliance with school policies, and proactively addressing absenteeism. This part‑time role involves communicating with parents, identifying patterns of chronic truancy, implementing intervention strategies, and collaborating with administration and counseling staff to support student success and academic engagement.
- Monitor attendance: Assist front office staff in tracking and maintaining accurate daily and meeting (period) attendance records for all students.
- Maintain confidentiality

Ensure students' attendance privacy is protected. - Enforce policies
:
Ensure compliance with the school's attendance policy and regulations. - Communicate with parents
:
Contact parents and guardians regarding student tardiness and absences, and seek their support to improve attendance. - Identify and address issues
:
Identify patterns of chronic absenteeism and other attendance discrepancies, and report them to administration. - Implement interventions
:
Work with students to address the root causes of poor attendance through targeted support. - Support student success

Assist with various student support needs.
- Communication
Skills: - Bilingual Proficiency (Spanish/English) preferred:
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with Spanish‑speaking students, parents, and staff. - Clear, empathetic, and professional communication when contacting parents regarding sensitive attendance issues.
- Ability to communicate policy details clearly to students and families.
- Organizational and Detail‑oriented
Skills: - Meticulous attention to detail for accurately recording and tracking attendance data across multiple systems (daily, meeting, tardies).
- Strong organizational skills to manage documentation, maintain files, and coordinate communication logs.
- Proficiency with data entry and administrative software (e.g., Power School).
- Interpersonal and Conflict Resolution
Skills: - High degree of patience and empathy when dealing with students and families facing challenges that contribute to absenteeism.
- Ability to maintain a non‑judgmental, supportive, yet firm stance on policy enforcement.
- Strong de‑escalation skills for potentially difficult conversations with parents/guardians and students.
- Discretion and Professionalism:
- Absolute commitment to maintaining student confidentiality and privacy regarding sensitive attendance and personal information.
- Professional demeanor when interacting with administration, counselors, teachers, and external agencies.
- Proactive and Problem‑solving Mindset:
- Ability to independently identify trends, patterns, and root causes of chronic absenteeism.
- A proactive approach to recommending and implementing effective intervention strategies.
- Resourceful in seeking out necessary documentation and coordinating follow‑up actions.
- Education: High School diploma required. Associate degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Experience: Prior experience in a school administrative setting, particularly in attendance tracking or student data management.
- Compliance: Must successfully complete all required diocesan background checks and Safe Environment training as mandated by the Diocese of Lafayette‑in‑Indiana.
- Technical
Skills:
Proficiency in student information systems (e.g., Power School) and office software (Google Workspace/Microsoft Office).
- Employment Status: Part‑time, non‑exempt.
- Work Schedule: Follows the school‑year calendar (180 student days).
- Commitment: Adherence to the policies and procedures outlined in the Lafayette Catholic School System Faculty and Staff Handbook.
This position reports directly to the Assistant Principal.
