Position: Elementary Special Education Teacher – Mild Interventions
Contract Status: Temporary Teacher Contract

Edgelea Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Elementary Special Education Teacher to provide instruction and support to students with disabilities. The successful candidate will work closely with general education teachers, administrators, related-service providers, paraprofessionals, students, and families to promote student learning and success.
This position will be filled through a Temporary Teacher Contract beginning October 26, 2026, and concluding May 21, 2027. Continued employment during the 2027–2028 school year may be considered based on the availability of funding, staffing needs, and exemplary performance.
QualificationsCandidates must possess one of the following:
- A valid Indiana teaching license that includes Mild Interventions; or
- A valid Indiana Alternative Special Education License in Mild Interventions.
Candidates must also demonstrate:
- Knowledge of effective instructional practices for students with disabilities;
- The ability to develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs;
- Strong classroom-management and organizational skills;
- Effective written and verbal communication skills;
- The ability to collaborate successfully with colleagues, families, and service providers; and
- A commitment to maintaining high expectations and creating an inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Provide specially designed instruction aligned with students' Individualized Education Programs.
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and services in compliance with applicable state and federal requirements.
- Collect and analyze student-performance data to guide instruction and document progress.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to provide appropriate accommodations, modifications, and instructional support.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and guardians regarding student progress.
- Participate in case conferences, professional development, staff meetings, and collaborative planning.
- Coordinate the work of assigned paraprofessionals, when applicable.
- Maintain accurate and timely student records and required special education documentation.
- Perform other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
Compensation and benefits will be provided in accordance with the Lafayette School Corporation–Lafayette Education Association collective bargaining agreement and will be prorated based on the position's start date and temporary contract period.
