Engineering Innovation, Inc. (EII) based in Lafayette, Indiana (about 20 minutes from the campus of Purdue University) is a premier provider of postal automation since 2006. EII is a small but growing dynamic company looking for highly motivated individuals to join its engineering team. The engineering team is responsible for the design, construction, testing, maintenance, and documentation of world-class postal automation equipment as well as assisting in defining the overall product direction.
This is a paid part-time position and is only open to U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents.
We are currently seeking an Associate Technician / Electrical Engineer. This position will be a hands-on engineering internship where you will design, build, test, and learn—while working alongside experienced engineers on real products and real problems. We at Engineering Innovation strive to ensure that our relationship with our students is mutually beneficial and that they walk away from the experience with new-found knowledge and skills they can apply in their careers.

As an Associate Technician / Electrical Engineer on our engineering team, you’ll get meaningful, resume‑building experience across both electrical engineering and electrical technician work. Your responsibilities may include:
- Engineering + R&D
- Assisting engineers with research, concept development, and early design work
- Performing component qualification, testing, and integration
- Building and testing prototypes
- Participating in compliance and safety testing
- Creating instructional manuals, guides, test plans, and reports
- Developing and maintaining engineering drawings and models
- Hands-On Technical Work
- Wiring and assembling control panels and machines
- Using electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.)
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctioning components
- Building custom test fixtures
- Documentation + Production Support
- Supporting documentation control processes
- Helping production teams with technical challenges and testing needs
We’re looking for a motivated student who enjoys solving problems and wants real engineering experience. Successful candidates have:
- Ability to work the following:
- During the Spring/Fall Semesters: a minimum of 20 hours/week (Monday – Friday, no nights or weekends)
- During the Summer: a minimum of 32 hours/week (Monday – Friday, no nights or weekends)
- Basic electrical knowledge
- Experience with electrical test equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope, power supplies, etc.)
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail
Experience in any of the following is helpful but completely optional—we’ll teach you what you don’t know:
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
- Soldering or Wiring
- 2D CAD programs (Altium)
- Basic circuit design
