Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer 2. The work will be done onsite full-time in Lafayette, IN. This is a 24-month long-term position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $36.60/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job SummaryCullerton Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer 2 to support global manufacturing of large industrial diesel and Dynamic Gas Blending (DGB) engines. This role provides hands‑on factory engineering support, including assembly fit‑ups of new designs, design validation, and continuous improvement initiatives. The engineer will collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and design teams to evaluate engineering change requests and production deviations. This position offers strong exposure to engine platforms, manufacturing processes, and cross‑functional product improvement teams.
Key Responsibilities- Provide onsite production engineering support for large diesel and DGB engine platforms
- Conduct assembly fit‑ups of new designs and provide design feedback to engineering teams
- Manage and resolve CI cards, AQEs, and Engineering Change Requests (ECRs)
- Utilize 3D modeling and visualization tools to verify and evaluate design alternatives
- Support Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) and New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and suppliers to resolve product issues
- Maintain and update production drawings and engineering documentation
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field
- 0–5 years of relevant experience (internships accepted)
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
- Experience with Microsoft Office tools
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in both office and factory floor environments
- Diesel engine or heavy equipment experience
- Experience with Creo (Pro/E), Teamcenter, EDS, or Vis Mockup
- Familiarity with SAP or Visual Basic
- Exposure to Power BI or AI tools
- Experience supporting manufacturing or production environments
