Job Title: Mechanical Engineer - Caterpillar (Lafayette, IN)
Location: Lafayette, IN (Onsite - approximately 30 minutes south of Winamac) 3701 South St, Lafayette, IN 47905, United States
Employment Type: Open-ended contract (potential for full-time conversion)
Pay Rate: $30-32/hr max $33-34/hr highest (based on experience).

An applications engineer is responsible for coordinating with customers and internal teams to design, test, and integrate turbocharger systems for various applications
Key duties and responsibilities
- Customer liaison:
Work directly with customers to understand their specific engine and performance requirements. This includes translating customer needs into product specifications. - Design and development:
Collaborate with product development and design engineers to create and modify turbocharger concepts and prototypes. Use computer-aided design (CAD) and simulation software, such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA), to test and optimize designs. - Technical support:
Provide expert technical advice to the sales, manufacturing, and support teams to address customer questions and application challenges. - Testing and validation:
Develop and execute test plans to ensure the turbocharger meets performance, quality, and durability requirements. This may involve engine testing and data analysis. - Troubleshooting:
Diagnose and resolve issues related to turbocharger performance and integration. This often requires strong problem-solving skills and experience with engine systems. - Documentation:
Prepare detailed technical reports, customer proposals, and other documentation related to product development and application. - Regulatory compliance:
Ensure that turbocharger designs and applications adhere to all relevant emissions standards and other industry regulations.
- Education: A bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 1+ Years Prior experience in automotive or heavy-duty engine component design or application.
- Technical skills:
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Solid Works. ProE , etc ).
- Experience with simulation tools (CFD, FEA).
- Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and engine systems.
- Soft skills:
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills for interacting with customers and cross-functional teams. - Very hands on Enjoys tinkering / working on cars , etc.
