Job Overview

Mechanical Design Engineer – Global Gas Solutions Packaging team, Electric Power Division.

This role supports the design of mechanical Balance of Plant and enclosure components for natural gas genset solutions, with a strong focus on CHP and Standby enclosures. All designs are modular and manufactured‑ready to allow sourcing in‑house or through third‑party packagers. The engineer will facilitate concept and detailed engineering, coordinate manufacturing releases, manage validation testing, and ensure designs are manufacturable, cost‑effective, durable, and serviceable.

Responsibilities
  • Accountable for concept and design of mechanical components and subsystems for standard packaged enclosed solutions; process engineering drawings and data in line with company procedures and Cat engineering systems; ensure on‑time release to Cat systems.
  • Support design reviews, virtual design reviews, and sourcing parts from suppliers; participate in VDRA’s to ensure manufacturability.
  • Create drawings for customized standard solutions and release parts in alignment with CVA’s for life‑cycle cost calculations.
  • Perform quality checks on enclosure packaging solutions and drive issue resolution with urgency.
  • Release pricing arrangements for the pricelist options.
  • Provide technical support to the sales team and global production facilities through internal operations or third‑party packagers.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities.
  • Communicate technical information effectively with team members, suppliers, dealers/customers, and other departments.
  • Provide presentations for Dealer Advisory Team (DAT) meetings and support training needs for internal and external groups.
  • Complete projects on time and within budget.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aeronautical engineering.
  • Proficient with Cat Engineering systems including Creo, Teamcenter, and product quality systems and reporting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in releasing prints in eSAP and EDS.
  • Previous supplier collaboration experience.
  • Experience in a design/development/problem‑solving environment.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to transmit technical information clearly and accurately.
  • Proficiency with processing invoices for engineering work and parts through NEXTGen and Prove Design.
  • Experience supporting Cat dealers.
  • Self‑starter with strong work ethic and initiative.
  • Proficient using Visio and documenting process flow maps.
Desired Skills
  • Customer‑facing experience through engineering, sales, and support functions; proficiency with AISTO XT and CSQ.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with NPI, CPI, and cost reduction projects with proven results.
  • Ability to manage multiple programs and resolve roadblocks to meet objectives.
  • Analytical thinking: ability to analyze problems, determine root causes, and create alternative solutions.
  • Effective communication: delivering feedback, listening, presenting, and avoiding inappropriate jargon.
  • Product design and development: building 3‑D models, testing alternatives, using automated tools, and building prototypes.
