Caterpillar Inc. seeks Senior Engineer-Design at its facility located at 3701 South Street, Lafayette, IN 47905.
Responsibilities- Conceive and provide practical product design applications using complex technical principles.
- Prepare concept, design, development, and feasibility studies of complex engineering projects.
- Collaborate with multiple design & performance engineers to develop boundary conditions and component acceptability requirements.
- Provide component & system level design feedback to engineering team based on analytical simulation results.
- Develop and maintain detailed project and validation plans to support critical timelines.
- Evaluate, define, and resolve design and manufacturing problems.
- Use technical expertise and product knowledge to support the issue resolution process by interfacing with test and evaluation, service, plant personnel, suppliers, and consultants.
- Collaborate on design and validation with global suppliers.
- Prepare concept, design, development, analysis, and feasibility studies of complex engineering projects for Caterpillar LPSD diesel and natural gas engines. Projects relate to intake and exhaust systems including intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, connecting air or exhaust piping, blowby breathers, crankcase ventilation systems, air valves, and turbocharger compressor bypass systems.
- Support projects for new engine rating design & development and understanding and correcting field problems.
- Travel: 10% domestic & international travel to support end product development at customer sites. Telecommuting: up to 2 days per week.
- Reqs: A bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or a related field and 5 years of experience in engine component, system level design or related occupation. In an alternative, a master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or a related field and 3 years of experience in engine component, system level design or related occupation.
- Employment experience with: (1) Engine component and system level FEA and CFD; (2) New Product Introduction (NPI) and resolution of current production field issues (Current Product Improvement (CPI)); (3) Collaborating with suppliers using the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process; (4) Creo 3D CAD software (or equivalent) and Teamcenter Product Lifecycle Software; (5) Project experience in New Technology Introduction (NTI); (6) Component design experience on Air Systems components (e.g. intake & exhaust manifolds, air valves, crankcase ventilation and heat shields);
(7) Complex models of Air Systems components; (8) Complex engine architecture layouts of Air Systems components; (9) Component simulation (FEA and CFD) on Air Systems components; (10) Mesh components, define boundary conditions and provide results & recommendations; (11) Conjugate Heat Transfer (CHT) and Thermal Transient simulations of engine components. - Summary Pay Range: $ - $
