Production Shift Manager
The Production Shift Manager will manage union employees and oversee day‑to‑day operations of the assigned operating area on shift. This role will serve as the key link between the operating area, the maintenance/electrical group, and plant management to ensure resources are engaged in problem resolution and the operating area meets safety, quality, and production goals.
Responsibilities- Coordinate, delegate, and follow up on efforts of operators to meet safety, quality, and production objectives.
- Communicate shift plan and production schedule with operators at the start of the shift and throughout.
- Lead daily safety topics, report and document incidents, and address near‑misses.
- Track and monitor quality and operational parameters; implement corrective actions when processes are out of specification.
- Maintain GMP housekeeping standards, correct deficiencies.
- Manage workforce, including overtime, call‑offs, and staffing to meet the schedule.
- Complete required shift documentation: shift notes, quality documentation, food safety documentation, and maintenance work orders.
- Lead communication with third‑party vendors and contractors for the production area.
- Act as a technical resource: advanced troubleshooting, strong verbal and written communication.
- Understand interaction of area with the plant; communicate decisions impacting other areas.
- Complete written and verbal hand‑over with the incoming PC.
- Escalate issues beyond the team level to appropriate management and engineers.
- Assist Lead PC with plant duties and perform Lead PC duties as needed.
- Check department KPI's throughout the shift and discuss with operators.
- Assist engineer with programming issues from operator input and follow up, ensuring timely resolution.
- 3‑5 years of demonstrated experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Strong planning and organizing skills.
- Clear, concise, effective written and verbal communication.
- Technical and analytical skills.
- Leadership and talent development experience.
- Management skills.
- Agile decision‑making and timely execution.
Salary range: $69,000 – $115,000 annually.
