Job Summary

Sr. CNC Programmer-Operator building the next generation of sustainable products in our Lafayette R&D facility. The CNC Router Operator is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC routers to manufacture precision prototype cabinetry components from wood, engineered wood, composites, and other advanced materials. This role supports research, product validation, and prototype development by producing high-quality components with exceptional accuracy and craftsmanship.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Program, set up, and operate CNC routers to manufacture precision prototype components.
  • Develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs to improve machining efficiency, quality, and material utilization.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, CAD files, blueprints, and work instructions to produce accurate parts.
  • Machine wood, MDF, HDF, plywood, laminates, composites, plastics, and other prototype materials.
  • Select, install, and maintain cutting tools, tooling, and fixtures for various machining operations.
  • Perform machine setup, calibration, and first-piece inspections prior to production.
  • Monitor machine performance and make program or tooling adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and finish quality.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and keep CNC equipment in optimal operating condition.
  • Inspect finished components using measuring tools to verify dimensions and quality standards.
  • Work closely with engineers, designers, and fabrication teams to support prototype development and R&D timelines.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all OSHA and company safety procedures.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with nested-based CNC router programming.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Cabinet Vision, AlphaCAM, Aspire, Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar CAD/CAM software.
  • Experience supporting prototype development or R&D manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of cabinetry construction, furniture manufacturing, or architectural millwork.
  • Experience operating additional woodworking equipment including edge banders, panel saws, and wide belt sanders.
Required

Skills and Abilities
  • Hands-on experience programming CNC routers using CAD/CAM software is required.
  • Experience machining wood, MDF, HDF, plywood, composites, plastics, and similar materials.
  • Strong understanding of feeds, speeds, tooling selection, work-holding, and machining strategies.
  • Ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD models.
  • Experience performing machine setup, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality precision components.

Physical ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift materials as required.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED; technical training in CNC machining, manufacturing technology, woodworking, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience operating and programming CNC routers in a manufacturing, cabinetry, woodworking, or prototype environment.
