Job Description

This position will have responsibility for the repair, auditing, and certification of all plant torque control equipment and general air and electric tools. This includes impact tools, pulse tools, air tools, torque wrenches, hand tools, and various electronic controlled torque tools. This position will also work with the Datamyte statistical hardware and software used to control torque processes on the shop floor.

This position will be responsible for statistical process control relating to torque control, torque process troubleshooting and diagnosis. This job requires interaction with all levels of personnel to ensure proper torque procedures are achieved. Assist in performing Quality hold rework as needed.

A Quality Technician is someone that will provide support to all areas of Production Packaging, Panels and Quality areas. This person may have to quarantine suspect material and sort the inventory to ensure conformance to 1E0279 is met.

Job Duties

The Large Power Systems Division in Lafayette, IN currently has an opening for a Quality Technician Air Tool Repair Technician. In this role you will be responsible for performing inspection and documentation of torque control tooling fit, and function. This individual will also respond to shop calls to inspect, repair, and replace torque tooling that is not meeting Engineering specification for torque.

Other activities include processing dealer returned material, performing correlation audits with suppliers, and rework nonconforming material to support assembly.

  • Maintain pneumatic air and electric tooling.
  • Perform torque tool calibration checks.
  • Maintain air hose reels, RFL units.
  • Monitor and maintain repair part inventory.
  • Training new employees in the area.
  • React to assembly/machine shop line calls for problematic torque-controlled tooling
  • Read Caterpillar assembly prints
  • Troubleshoot issues with pneumatic and electric torque-controlled tooling
  • Strong customer focus, communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work with diverse groups
Basic Qualifications

  • Engine knowledge
  • Print reading skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic and electric tooling
  • Successful candidate will be required to complete the Quality Specialist exercise within the first six months of service in this assignment

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend and twist at the waist and be able to squat.
  • Stand on concrete for 8+ hours.
Additional Information
  • Position available on 2nd shift 2:30pm - 10:30pm
  • This position with train on 1st shift.

Summary Pay Range

$30.28 - $38.52
