At Wabash, Welding Coordinators perform a variety of tasks depending on specific site or department needs. Welding Coordinators play a crucial role in maintaining weld quality, assisting team members and assuring the manufacturing processes flow smoothly. They are expected to produce high-quality work while upholding production standards. Welding Coordinators are required to pass Qualification Weld Tests and, if needed, Certification Tests depending on site needs.
Applicants that do not pass the initial Weld Test can be qualified by attending the Wabash Weld School (internal training and testing), demonstrating that they can pass the Wabash Weld Test after training. Certification Tests will be administered as needed, per site specific criteria.
Below are examples of the type of duties you could be responsible for:
- Primary duty is to assist the Dept. Supervisor in meeting production goals as outlined by the Supervisor.
- Job functions require exercising independent judgment, managing production flow and directing team members.
- Adhere to and enforce Wabash safety requirements.
- Perform a variety of duties and team member support requiring knowledge of techniques, quality requirements, equipment, Engineering Prints and safety precautions.
- In the event of employee absences, may weld assemblies to help maintain production schedule.
- Ensures work is performed at a quality level consistent with Wabash standard practice.
- Supervised by Dept. Supervisor, Sr. Supervisor or Manager.
- Good attendance is critical. Must be willing and able to work overtime.

- Engineering Prints / Work Instructions / Computer Use
- Handheld Tools / Tape Measure
- Hoist / Crane
- MIG Welding (GMAW – including Pulse Transfer)
- TIG Welding (GTAW) and Stick Welding (SMAW) may be possible, depending on site needs
- Plasma Cutter / Gouging and Oxy / Fuel Torch
- Grinder / Sander
- Respirator/ ADF Welding Hood or PAPR Welding Hood
- Must have above average written and verbal communication skills.
- High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is preferred for this position.
- Good people skills required.
- Must have ability to learn and use required computer applications.
- Possess math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Must have ability to understand and apply Engineering Specifications, Change Orders, and Safe Work Instructions.
- Good problem-solving skills required.
- Must pass Wabash Weld Test Qualification and/or any site-specific required Weld Certification Tests.
Experience:
Experience and education are great to come into this position with. However, it’s not required, here at Wabash, we give you the training to become comfortable in any Welding Coordinator position. Upon receiving an offer letter from us, you’ll undergo orientation and several days of training, preparing you for the production floor.
