The Quality Assurance (QA) Manager leads the Quality Assurance Department by managing QA supervisors and product specification/labeling personnel within a regulated food manufacturing environment. This role oversees quality auditing programs and execution of food safety and regulatory compliance activities by QA staff. The QA Manager supports the maintenance of product specifications, new product setup, labeling processes, and regulatory label approvals. The position also coordinates with external sanitation service providers and serves as the primary facility liaison for sanitation-related activities.
Key Responsibilities- Directly manage QA supervisors and specification/labeling personnel, with indirect oversight of hourly QA technicians.
- Investigate customer quality complaints, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and ensure timely resolution.
- Monitor, trend, and report customer complaints to leadership, identifying recurring issues and driving preventive action plans.
- Serve as the primary liaison with an external sanitation provider, overseeing sanitation activities including cleaning performance, sanitation schedules, program effectiveness, and invoice review.
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to food safety, quality, sanitation, and regulatory compliance.
- Support food safety and quality audits, ensuring ongoing compliance and organizational audit readiness.
- Report significant quality, food safety, and regulatory matters to operational and corporate leadership, ensuring effective communication of corrective actions, compliance status, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Manage the creation, review, and approval of product specifications and labeling to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, customer requirements, and product standards.
- Maintain expert-level knowledge of applicable food safety, quality, sanitation, and regulatory standards.
- Promote and support a strong culture of workplace safety by ensuring compliance with company policies, applicable regulations, and safe work practices.
- Develop and deliver food safety and quality training programs to ensure employee knowledge, compliance, and adherence to best practices.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to strengthen food safety culture, improve operational performance, and support continuous improvement and regulatory compliance initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree and relevant professional experience preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Food safety certification preferred.
- Quality management system practitioner certification preferred.
- Must be available to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required to support continuous operations.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to build positive working relationships in a team-oriented environment.
