Job Summary
Automation Machine Tool Electrician – Caterpillar seeks experienced electricians for the Large Power Systems Division in Lafayette, Indiana. The role involves troubleshooting and repairing complex domestic and foreign machine tools and related equipment, including CNC, PLC, and relay logic‑controlled machines. Compensation ranges from $38.52 to $49.03 per hour plus a 6% shift premium; $5,000 sign‑on bonus is available.
Additional Information- Shifts:
2nd (3:30 pm‑11:30 pm) & 3rd (11:30 pm‑7:30 am) - Relocation lump sum up to $15,000 for eligible candidates
- Hourly pay range $38.52–$49.03 + 6% shift premium; higher rates for experience
- Overtime and attendance incentives

- Climate‑controlled work environment, clean and safe
- Repair and troubleshoot Okuma, G&L, Mazak, Lamb, Landis, Waldrich Coburg, Ingersoll, Toyoda, DMG Mori, and other industrial machine tools.
- Maintain and repair P&H cranes, hoists, conveyors, furnaces, part washers, ABB robots, and other large industrial equipment.
- Diagnose CNC and PLC control systems, including Fanuc, Siemens, Allen & Bradley, Modicon, Indramat.
- Service AC/DC analog and digital drives from Siemens, Allen & Bradley, Modicon, Indramat.
- Calibrate measurement and feedback scale systems (Heidenhain, inductosyn).
- Operate basic tools and perform basic mechanical work.
- Work overtime as required to support production demands.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical repair of machine tools and related equipment.
- Experience with the machines listed above and with CNC/PLC systems.
- Proficiency in interpreting machine tool schematics.
- Basic mechanical skill and ability to use hand tools.
- Self‑motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work overtime.
- Certified electrician
- Associate degree in industrial automation
- Fast‑paced, medium‑to‑heavy assembly and technical environment.
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, turning, climbing, standing for 8+ hrs.
- Lift 40 lbs; repetitive hand movements.
- Work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Pass color‑blindness test.
