Position: Distribution Line Apprentice - 1st Year Indiana (Multiple Location)

The Line Apprentice position supports the operations process by providing and maintaining service to new and existing customers. Employees learn a working knowledge of the computer system, tools, equipment, and material, and will learn day‑to‑day operations and specifications of the distribution system. In addition to normal work hours, employees must be available on‑call with a more experienced person as required, and work all hours as needed—including day or night, weekends or holidays, during planned outages or emergency situations.

Employees must perform all duties safely and adhere to all company safety rules and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Construct, maintain, and repair electrical distribution systems, including overhead and underground lines.
  • Install and repair electrical equipment such as street lighting and load control devices.
  • Construct overhead and underground distribution lines based on engineering specifications.
  • Install equipment such as transformers, capacitors, regulators, e‑meters, streetlights, safe lights.
  • Maintain and repair equipment; perform preventative maintenance and use test equipment such as voltage and amp meters.
  • Respond to trouble calls when equipment fails or electrical service is interrupted.
  • Support the company’s goals and represent the company positively and professionally.
  • Work in varied indoor and outdoor environments, including heat and cold weather conditions.
  • Perform emergency work, including night shifts and inclement weather.
  • Work in confined spaces (e.g., manholes, vaults).
  • Shift work, overtime, weekend work, periodic call‑out duty, and frequent travel.
Basic/Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).
  • Must meet residency requirement: reside within 30‑mile radius of the hiring operations site within 9‑month probationary period.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 275 lbs (weight restriction).
  • Must be able to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment‑based immigration sponsorship.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certificate from Lineman’s Training School or current enrollment.
  • Certificate from Technical School Line program or current enrollment.
  • Military experience.
  • Experience in the electric utility industry.
  • Experience climbing different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.).
  • Experience working near power lines or electricity (residential, commercial, overhead or underground).
  • Experience responding to natural disasters or emergency situations (storms, fires, auto accidents).
Working Conditions
  • Work environment ranges from indoor to outdoor in varying heat and cold conditions.
  • Emergency situations may require working at night and in inclement weather.
  • Subjects to confined spaces.
  • Shift work, overtime, weekend work, periodic call‑out duty, and frequent travel.
Travel and Relocation
  • Travel to multiple on‑call locations is required.
  • Relocation assistance provided as applicable.
  • Not a visa‑sponsored position.
