Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Leadership

The Office of Student Engagement and Leadership, within the Division of Student Success, is dedicated to fostering meaningful student involvement, leadership development, and personal growth.

Through a variety of initiatives, organizations, and resources—including

Student Organizations, Leadership Programs, Fraternity and Sorority Life,student entertainment, Homecoming, campus traditions, and university-wide programming,we educate, empower, and engage students in the life of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Our team collaborates regularly with campus partners such as Orientation, First-Year Experience, Family Weekend,Athletics, Residential Life, the Alumni Association, and other university departments to create comprehensive and enriching student experiences. Through these efforts, students develop self-awareness, leadership competencies,interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively contribute to their organizations, professions, and communities. We are committed to providing experiences that promote lifelong learning and career readiness beyond graduation.
The Assistant Director is part of aprofessional team responsible for advancing student engagement, leadership development, and learning opportunities through fraternity and sorority life,student organizations, and campus programming boards. This position primarily advises one or more student event programming boards and may have opportunities to contribute to other departmental functions. This role can provide broad experiences across multiple student engagement areas, making it an excellent opportunity for professionals seeking to build expertise in comprehensive student affairs programming and leadership development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adviseone or more student programming boards within the University Program Center.
  • Mentorand support student leaders in all aspects of event planning and execution, including artist and vendor contracts, budget management,logistics, marketing, risk management, and program assessment.
  • Recruit,select, train, and develop student leaders serving on programming boardsand committees.
  • Guidethe development and implementation of programs that promote student learning outcomes, including critical thinking, leadership, civic engagement, service, interpersonal growth, and campus involvement.
  • Coordinate professional development opportunities for student leaders and accompany students to conferences, retreats, and off-campus leadership experiences as needed.
  • Cultivate collaborative partnerships across campus and within the community toenhance student programming and engagement opportunities.
  • Assist with the management and maintenance of departmental websites, social media platforms, and digital communications.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of marketing strategies that promote student engagement opportunities and campus involvement.
  • Represent the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership on university committee sand in collaboration with academic and student affairs partners.
  • Manage student programming budgets while promoting fiscal responsibility,ensuring expenditures remain within allocated funds, and stewarding student fee resources in a manner that benefits the broader UL Lafayette student community.
  • Participate in evening and weekend programs and events as required.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’sdegree from an accredited institution.

Preferred

  • Master’sdegree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or a related field.
Preferred Experience and Competencies
  • Minimumof two years of experience in student activities, student organizations,leadership development, event planning, or related areas (graduate assistantship experience may be considered).
